My WHO Retrospective of the their 1982 Good Bye Tour and 2025 Good Bye Tour

I decided to look at it from 3 ways of the years 1982 & 2025, Me the Who and the United Center & (Old diggs) The Stadium

For me this 1982 doing was sending my artwork to galleries on east coast to show and sell. Weddings started the year off and added with a few family photos most of them from employee or customer contacts from the food store I work part time. I thought about leaving the food store, but my father came in with good reasons not to, 1st you getting health insurance just by showing up 12 hrs a week, 2nd you get to put money in new thing 401's for the future, 3rd most, more than 50 % of all my photo jobs come from conversations at the food store with customers and employees. As I look back at this decision staying at the food store kept producing dividends including in my present day as I write this. This was interesting year, in that this year The Who is touring so it is time to see them, it is the so called farewell tour, Oct. 5th at the Rosemont Horizon. The tickets (always bought 2 whether I had a date, sell it at concert, buy some more camera toys) were easy to get as Carson's at the mall (Ticketron inside) was right across the street of the food store I worked for and the my bosses (young) at the time understood that letting employees come in after standing in line for hard to get tickets would create loyalty, as most food store staffs are under 30. So as I remember there was some thought that was that deaths in Cincinnati and New Album called ( bad timing) Face Dances was thought to contribute to the retirement announcement, but many thought, retired until they are offered big bucks to tour again, I believe they retired 2 times again, a recurring concept and ploy by bands to follow. There was little pot being smoked, maybe campaign (War on Drugs). This is the year, 1982 I date a woman 8 years older than me and one of places I took her to the Who concert. Took some great photos of the Who, including a photo of the set list clipped to the drum kit. They played quite loud all the big hits as my date was not having as much fun as I was until she got used it being loud. Once again having the Telephoto Lens and being able to wander around the area was fun, they let me wander as I discovered the bigger camera lens the less likely they said anything. My date didn't seem to mind me wandering around as the concert itself was the fun. We went to my favorite place after the concert, Taco Bell and she embraced it. We dated on and off, fun but, I was too much into many things, to many directions, I just considered it having fun.

I decided to make the comparison of the 2 venues of basically the same location of The Stadium & United Center and drastic change from those years. Even though in 1982 The Who played at the Rosemont Horizon the conversation went to The Stadium and the year I first time I went to a concert at The Stadium (Led Zeppelin -1977). The conversation went to cica 1977 at The Stadium, we discuss first the way the The Stadium looked in the dark as you came closer as lighting (yellow & sparse) of the building, itself looked like a Prison. The street lighting was at best spotty. The area was not considered the safest place to be and because the Bulls were really bad, attendance was hard to come by and so bad the Pop Drivers (I think Pepsi & 7UP promos) at the store were handing out free tickets to Bulls and Blackhawk games to anyone who wanted them. I imagine the upkeep was hard with Blackhawks only good team. The other thing was parking as probably only time parking was hard to find was at Rock Concerts as I parked my car at the Led Zeppelin concert in a home owners driveway for $10 and bought a T shirt as I hope my car is still out there when I get out. The seats where in the nose bleed section and 6' 1'' person and like being in a high school aditorium I just remember coming out after the concert and it being really dark for being in a big city and finding and getting into your car was a more urgent goal.

2025

In 2025 I am retired just running my classic rock streaming radio station https://classicrock-radio.com/ and doing Organic Garden site https://havecompostwillgarden.com/ My other fun Rock Concerts. The tickets were purchased on line (300 section) and not having a big desire to see them live again since 1982 it was this time see them to see if it still about the music. I like allot of their music, play allot of their music on the station including the whole albums Tommy (both original & Soundtrack) and Quadrophenia.

The United Center is now where most the 1977 neighborhood houses are gone, replaced with businesses and Apt. complexes. It is still easy to get to yet. Yet because I was using the handicapped drop off spot (Gate 4 Wood St.) nobody could direct us to it, around United Center. We stumbled across it. The staff inside very nice helpful and helped greatly in finding my seat. The inside is clean and offered a variety of food and drink. Modern using digital tickets. But the nose bleed seats do not work for a 6' 1" person ever. In fact because the height of the seat was like reaching to chairs in 4th grade class, not friendly to a person 6'1'' and not being young. In fact they reminded me of 1977 Led Zeppelin concert at the Stadium, so much that its like they refurbished the nose bleed seats from The Stadium and put them in 300 section of United Center. The people around me felt so bad about me trying to get up each time they chose to climb over the seats. The people were great around me and made my night better. The eye line was fine with jumbotrons and the sound was just under what I like in Rock concerts. It was clear but the Hits seemed not loud enough. There was smell of some pot but not much. The audience was what I thought this time, about 70% male and baby boomers. There were some in their 50's and very few young people, teens, twenties and thirties. I liked the songs they picked and really went thru all the albums and audience sang and also clapped with about 5 songs but best Behind Blue Eyes.

At one point they showed they can laugh at themselves, whether a part of the show or real, seemed to be remembering what song was next, a pause and Pete said don't worry we won't die yet, that's in Philadelphia. The mic dropped on the stage and another age joke and Pete also restarted a song and just laughed, age comment, it was funny. The one I was hoping for Magic Bus but not tonite. Overall a good concert an oncor songs as expected. Called into the radio station to give my review. It really looked like they really went for it doing songs they haven't done in years or at all. It was about the music and the audience welcomed it. They seemed to turn up the volume on Love Reign on Me, Baba O'Riley (on violin Katie Jacoby), and Won't Get Fooled Again. I bought a Who T Shirt outside only because I think that money could possibly help some person tonite as opposed of the corporate machine taking your credit card, I might be wrong but there is better chance that person needs that money. There was a second show added but then canceled, my guess is that they over estimated the fans, probably has something to do with as having 4 good-bye tours is not a positive reinforcement and there was the backlash of the death of fans and perceived as insensitive to the naming new album Face Dances. On the way home stopped off at Taco Bell and got home about 1 AM checked on how many posts on You Tube of the Concert and started writing this. To be continued...
