ACDC Retrospective 1980-2025

I decided on the two main comparisons ACDC and me 45 years later and then the audience which is also interesting.

We will start with me head long into my photography business 1980 and as all through my teenage years I would try to win stuff from radio stations. I blame it on when I won from WLS-AM a SX-70 camera (Polaroid) and WLS Beach Towel on my first try calling in. Plus WLS and WCFL (Super CFL) were head to head and giving away stuff constantly. So it was like Pavlov's dog, if I hear giveaway on the radio and I am near a phone, I call in, and worst is I kept winning really good stuff regularly. Which brings me on how I got ACDC Tickets in 1980. As the habit continues into my 20's I respond to a call into to win ACDC Tickets from The Loop (Rock Station on FM which took the Lime Light over WKQX and WDAI). As again my first try to win the 4 tickets to ACDC plus dinner for 4 and I am a winner (New Restaurant gift certificate we will use later) . So now I have 4 ACDC Tickets and my world of Photography is working for me, more and more photo jobs and different ones, one being, word is out I am photographing rock shows and the price is a seat for me which gets you a pick of photos I take at the show. The person I take to the ACDC Concert is the girl who has hired me to take photos of 2 (Journey & Fleetwood Mac) rock shows in the past. That way I can wander around getting some great photos of ACDC in which I did and she gets to see the show as a Thank you. I sold the other 2 tickets to my friend for the price Taco Bell after the show. We took two cars as I remember as I was taking photos and my friend was on a date. It was fun and the concert started with this giant bell gonging and reverberating around the Horizon and beginning with song Back in Black. We knew this group was real and the new lead singer was the last piece of the puzzle. The songs on the album got regular play and I bought my first ACDC album.. My Life in Music Now ACDC in 1980 (Some success on albums but Bon Scott has died and now new Lead Singer which was some what got more attention plus better song writing and the oblivious Album title Back in Black. There heavy push on playing the album was because so many good songs. This album and songs continue to play on radio, movies, and sporting events for next 45 years which brings me to now 2025. When I heard ACDC Tickets going on sale in fall of 2024 my next assignment for my radio station and hey I'm retired, its all about the fun. I Bought tickets from Ticketmaster and have app on my phone so very easy. Getting there (driving into Chicago Memorial Day weekend not fun) it was by North Shore Taxi and my tickets were on my phone which is really truly is what tech is about. While getting to the seats I saw a girl early twenties wearing the school boy outfit in red as he in ACDC has been wearing lately. I tell her she looks great and says thank you and the glint in her eyes told me she knows she is fully aware of her effect on me and anyone else that enjoys that look on a woman. My heart and sole are still alive and well. The sight of all those blinking Devil's Horns when lights went down was as impressive as holding up your cell phone with a virtual lighter for a oncore.The Beginning of the concert was (Jumbo Tron) virtual reality sports car driving at high speeds towards and into Chicago to Soldiers Field (pretty accurate) and as the camera melds from virtual to reality as they come on stage and as they (camera) see the audience. The crowd loved it. They played all the great music and one minor but was evident in some songs, his voice was not being high enough on level of guitar to be heard clearly. Highway to Hell and Hells Bells just brought so many memories just gushing back. They are my age and must admit the quality of the show was impressive. I call into my radio station give my retrospective and review of ACDC 45 years later. So for me what was interesting was the audience. At Stones concerts you always would see all age groups, but I was surprised to see it here too, also no real sign of Mara juana, lots of beer, not a Margarita crowd. I must admit I was expecting AARP crowd but it was that same family mix a Stones concert brings. At one point it looked liked date nite 1980, a young guy out to impress his date. Then across the aisle 2 girls (approx 10 year old girls) just loving the blinking devil horns they are wearing on their head with the mothers at their side. The other interesting thing was the crowd was about 50/50 split male/female and I don't remember the 1980 concert being that even. So in 2025 at ACDC Concert you bring your significant other and maybe the kids and better yet the grand kids because you already survived the Highway to Hell.

Truly a fun night.. to be contined...as I remember..
